Beach open vs swimming season

The public beach is free and open every day of the year for walking, sunrise and the night promenade. The supervised swimming zone, lifeguards, showers and changing rooms, however, operate only inside the announced swimming season.

  • Outside the season you can walk the sand but should not swim without lifeguard cover.
  • Always check on-site signs; dates can shift with weather.

2026 supervised dates

For 2026 the lifeguarded swimming season is 10 July to 23 August. During this window the safe swimming area is marked with red / yellow flags and staffed by lifeguards. Hours are posted locally and may vary by day.

  • Swim only inside the flagged zone when flags allow.
  • No swimming during typhoon or high-surf warnings.

Safety on the water

Yeongildae has a gentle, shallow slope that suits family wading, but tides move fast and breakwaters can hide rip currents. Stay in the open white-sand area, follow flag changes and keep children in the shallow flagged zone.

  • Non-swimmers should wear flotation aids in the flagged zone.
  • Avoid climbing fences, rocks and breakwaters.
